Skiing at Cannon Mountain
Cannon Mountain Ski Area New Hampshire is located on the White Mountain in a state-owned area of Franconia Notch State Park. SKI magazine rated it #6 for scenery in North America in October 2008 along with listing it in the Top 10 Eastern Rankings as well. It also has been rated in the Top 10 in SnowEast magazine as well as being named the #3 Favorite Classic Resort.
Cannon Mountain Ski Area New Hampshire has 72 trails and nine ski lifts. The ski area stretches over 165 acres and is the most vertical in all of New Hampshire. The only aerial tram in New Hampshire is at Cannon Mountain. There are 22 miles of trails and the area has a north-northeast exposure. The longest trail is 2.3 miles long. Cannon Mountain's ski season runs from December to April.
The area's elevation is 4,080 feet, making it the highest in New Hampshire. The base elevation is 1,900 feet and the vertical drop is 2,180 feet. Annually, the area receives 160 inches of fresh snow and has snowmakers as well that add even more snow.
Cannon Mountain's Tuckerbrook area is perfect for the entire family. It has 13 trails with 4 lifts that are great for learning. This area is for the beginner or those looking for a relaxed ski experience. The Brookside slope is tailored for beginners as well. It has a gentle terrain and a great scenic view of Northern New Hampshire and Vermont. This slope has a triple chair lift and a pony lift. The ski school is located at Brookside and features a magic carpet lift.
Cannon Mountain has a wide range of lessons for all ages and abilities. They feature the Brookside Learning Center located in the Peabody Basse Area. It has all-day and part-day programs for youths and also childcare for children ages six months and older. There is also a PSIA Ski and Snowboard School. Some other programs being offered include:
- Learn to Ski and Ride
- Cannon Kids Program for those ages four through seven
- Mountain Explorers for ages eight through twelve
- Women Skiers Program
Cannon Mountain has ski shops located slopeside at the Peabody Base Lodge and Tram Base. It also has ski and snowboard rentals. If your equipment is in need of repair or tuning, check out the High Performance Tuning Center at Peabody Base Lodge. The rentals at the Mountain are all shaped skis and feature step-in bindings.
