Ski Areas Canada
From LoveToKnow Ski
If you would like to find some amazing ski areas, Canada is the place to go. The mountains of both Eastern Canada and the Canadian Rockies are filled with resorts that represent prime examples of superb ski area management. All have varied terrain, great restaurants and a variety of lodging options, which are suitable for all tastes and budgets.
Eastern Ski Areas Canada
While the eastern Canadian resorts tend to get rather cold, they have a special appeal that is unmatched by their western sisters. Anyone who wishes that they could afford a ski trip to France might get some satisfaction from a visit to Mon Tremblant, which is one of the classically French Canadian ski areas.
Canada offers variety in its resorts, which are often favored by US citizens during American holidays such as President's Day and Martin Luther King Day. In general, since these are not Canadian holidays, the lift lines might be shorter than those at the Vermont, New Hampshire and Maine ski resorts. A full list of Eastern Canadian ski resorts can be found on this page. However, here are some descriptions of the most popular ski areas of Eastern Canada.
Mont Tremblant
Mont Tremblant may well be considered Eastern Canada's signature ski area. It's quintessentially French ambiance makes it a destination resort for people from all over North America. Not only does Mont Tremblant have great skiing; visitors can enjoy delicious crepes for breakfast and dine on elegant French cuisine for dinner. Slope side spas appeal to those who want to add some luxury to their ski vacation, and an active nightlife attracts an international set of young, active singles. The terrain at Mont Tremblant is suitable for all levels of skiing and snowboarding.
Mont-Sainte-Anne
While Mon Tremblant appeals to tourists, Eastern Canadian locals hold a special place in their hearts for Mont Sainte Anne. This family-friendly resort is in close proximity to Quebec City. One can easily stay in Quebec, and take a day trip to the ski area.
Ski Areas of British Columbia
The people of British Columbia take great pride in their dynamic yet affordable ski areas. Canada itself is also a budget-friendly destination, so if you're looking for an economical yet exciting ski area, consider the resorts of British Columbia. Whistler Blackcomb
Whistler Blackcomb is the grand dame of British Columbia ski resorts. This ski area is living proof that size does indeed matter. Its proximity to Vancouver makes it the perfect destination for anyone who wants to explore a remarkable Canadian city while enjoying a world-class ski resort.
Getting to Whistler is half the fun. As you drive along the Sea to Sky Highway, one can't help but be overwhelmed by the majestic appearance of these two mountains. Whistler Blackcomb also appeals to non-skiing friends and family members. Many people visit each year for the gourmet ice cream at Cows, or the sake margaritas at Sushi Village.
Fernie Alpine Resort
Although Fernie is also located in British Columbia, it bears no resemblance whatsoever to Whistler Blackcomb. Its location in the Kootenay Rockies means that the word “Fernie” is practically synonymous with deep, dry powder. Fernie appeals to Canadian locals who grew up on skis. Groomed trails and quaint restaurants are not a major priority. As such, it is not the ideal ski area for novice skiers. However, if deep powder bowls and tree skiing make you happy, this is the place to go.
Banff Ski Areas
The three ski areas of Banff are located in Banff National Park. They are characterized by their overwhelming beauty. Lake Louise is famous for the ultra elegant Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise. If you can't afford to stay there, but want to feel like royalty, spend some time in the hotel's opulent lobby.
As its name implies Sunshine Village, with its multi-colored gondolas, wide trails and rolling hills, is a sunny resort with a pleasant ambiance. Mount Norquay appeals to families.
Now that you know something about the ski areas of Canada, why not plan a trip?
