Michigan ski resorts provide individuals with an abundance of enjoyment on the slopes. You can find ski resorts both in Northern Michigan and in the Upper Peninsula.

Northern Michigan Ski Resorts

For the beginner or the most advanced skier, Michigan is an ideal place to find numerous ski resorts. If you are located in the Northern Michigan region, the Boyne, Cadillac, Gaylord and Traverse City areas each offer resorts to visit.

Boyne Michigan

Visitors to BOYNE will find 114 downhill runs down two mountains, Boyne Mountain and Boyne Highlands. This location also offers snowboarding. Instructors are on hand to help individuals learn or advance their skills. BOYNE is a four-season resort, available for Nordic skiing, tubing, dog sledding, snowmobiles and snowshoeing.

Cadillac Michigan

For those visiting the Cadillac region, one of the best ski resorts is Caberfae Peaks Ski & Golf Resort. This family friendly resort offers two main parks. Cammy's Park is up the mountain and features intermediate and advanced skiing. Little Jibbers Park is ideal for the beginner since the slopes are much gentler. Lodging, instruction, equipment rentals and ski packages are available at the resort's website.

Gaylord Michigan

Skiing in Gaylord, Michigan is possible at Treetops Resort. This ski resort is a bit more challenging than others are, but still offers beginner slopes. There are 23 ski runs, many of which offer beautiful views of the region. The resort offers three chairlifts and two towropes. The Warming Hut keeps you warm at the base of the slopes. Snowboarding, snowblading and cross-country skiing is available here as well.

Traverse City

Traverse City offers several different options for skiing. One of the best resorts in this area is Crystal Mountain. This high quality resort features advanced to beginner's slopes, including instructional slopes for younger children. There is a Nordic Center here, too.

Another option is Shanty Creek Resorts which offers 4500 acres of outdoor fun. This location offers excellent training programs for beginners. A third resort in Traverse City is The Homestead Resort. This resort offers some of the best views of Lake Michigan. The snowmaking is fantastic and the location features state of the art safety and comfort features.

Upper Peninsula Ski Resorts

Ski resorts in the Upper Peninsula are available in the Big Snow and Western regions. Iron Mountain is also a great place to find excellent skiing opportunities.

Big Snow Western Upper Peninsula

One of the best ski resorts located in this region is Big Powderhorn. It features 33 trails, equally split between skill levels, and two terrain parks. The longest run is a mile. Ski school, rental equipment and lodging are available here.

Another resort is Indian Head Mountain. Twenty-nine open runs span 220 acres. There are two terrain parks: Timber Wolf for beginners and Big Chief for intermediate and advanced skiers. The resort offers a ski school, lodging, dining and equipment rentals.

Iron Mountain

The Iron Mountain region of the Upper Peninsula also offers several ski resorts. As the name implies, this mountain offers some of the more advanced skiing available in the region.

Skiing in Michigan

Norway Mountain is a ski resort in this region. It offers 17 trails and 2 terrain parks. Most of the slopes are intermediate, though beginner and expert trails are also available here. Lodging, banquet halls and dining are available at this resort. Pine Mountain is another Iron Mountain area ski resort. This resort offers free skiing for children. It also offers numerous packages for discount skiing.

Any of these Michigan ski resorts are a great place to visit no matter what level of skier you are. It is important to call ahead for availability and hours of operation. Each of the resort's websites provides snowfall updates during the ski season. Most also produce their own snow. Also, do not forget about these resorts during the summer months. Most offer golf packages and spring and fall getaways that are well worth the investment.
